An important learning opportunity! Don't miss this event!
Fall 2008 Lesson Study Work Sessions at William Paterson University:
Improving lesson planning, observation, and discussion of research lessons
Place: William Paterson University (Wayne, NJ)
Date: November 20-21, 2008
Center for Lesson Study at William Paterson University is planning to host 2-day Lesson Study work sessions this coming fall.
Lesson study is a professional learning
process that teachers engage in to systematically examine instructional
methods, teaching content and curriculum, as well as student learning
and understanding process in order to achieve their educational goals.
Lesson study is recognized as one of the most powerful designs for building
professional learning communities by the National Staff Development
Council.
At this conference, participants will
have the opportunity to learn many ways to improve planning, observation,
and discussion of research lessons during Lesson Study. Sessions
are led by one of the well-known Lesson Study educators and researchers,
Dr. Makoto Yoshida (Center for Lesson Study at William Paterson University)
in collaboration with teachers from the Northern New Jersey Lesson Study
Group (NNJLSG). In addition, participants will have the opportunity
to observe and discuss research lessons prepared by teachers from NNJLSG.
We are sure that you will leave our work
sessions excited about the potential that Lesson Study holds for you,
your fellow teachers, and your students. In addition, you will
be exposed to many ideas on how to start lesson study as well as ways
to improve it, in order to maximize the results at your site.
This work session is for everybody, including people who are new to
lesson study, beginners and experienced lesson study practitioners,
facilitators and coaches, PD coordinators, and administrators.
Participation as a team is encouraged but not required. We are
sure that the Lesson Study work sessions will help you establish a quality
professional learning community at your school and/or district in order
improve classroom teaching and learning.
Attached pdf file is a brochure that

I am looking forward to meeting you at
